A hand-crafted unique small batch premium gin of quality and consistency. Prior to distillation the spirit is generously macerated with whole juniper cones and further infused with coriander seeds, angelica root, lemon peel, orange peel, liquorice, cassia bark, orris root, nutmeg and cinnamon to produce a full-flavoured, classic gin with juniper, fresh citrus, and floral accents and a balanced finish. Perfect for ‘mixing’, adding to cocktails and because of its slightly sweeter ‘Old Tom’ style, serving neat over ice. Just 200 bottles are produced per distillation using the single shot method.

Champions Gin commemorates the life of William Perry, all England’s, bare knuckle boxing champion between 1850 and 1857. Perry came from Tipton in the Black Country and became known as ‘the Tipton Slasher’. His bronze statue depicted on our label may be seen in Coronation Gardens, Tipton. Perry, who once fought and won a bout lasting 133 rounds, claimed that after a hard fight all one needed was half a pint of Old Tom Gin washed down with a quart of ale. “Anything else is mouthwash” he said.

Old Tom is a style of gin that bridges the gap between London Dry and the sweeter original gin, Dutch Genever. Legend has it that the “Old Tom” name came from a 19th century English bar that dispensed it’s gin in secret. The bar’s sign featured a black Tomcat and inside was a slot into which the drinker placed a coin in return for a shot of gin. The customer would shout “puss” and the barmaid would reply “meow”, signalling the drinker to place their mouth around a pipe to drink the measure!
